Midwest Hype Midwest Hype was born over six years ago in a small town in Indiana , part of “Harbor Country.” LaPorte, IN served as the backdrop for their spark of creation, which evolved into a real force of music at Ball State University in Muncie , IN. The college environment provoked more musical exploration and genuine commitment as musicians—matured by their environment, independence and the integration of new members enrolled in the BSU school of music. Each band member's unique education, focus and skills come together to form one of the most promising young bands in the nation—several of which perform regularly with various Jazz bands, including international tours throughout Europe. They produce a sound that both provokes thought and stirs the soul to get out of your seat and throw up your hands and dance, intertwining distinct music and lyric genres erupting into an entirely original and unique blend free from the stereotypical constraints of individual genres, giving all music fans something to enjoy. Songwriting is brought to live with exacting, blended precision and skill beyond the eddy-circling confines of the jam-band, enveloping and embracing audiences to travel along side them on a physical and spiritual journey of innovation from the launching pad of polished studio music production into superbly engaging stage performances. As full and cohesive their sound, each member is an individual with distinct and unique persona’s deep-rooted in their genuine Midwest upbringings seasoned with the flavor of their generation. As honest as they are with themselves and their music, they are unrelentingly funny people to be around—positive, fun-loving spirits that bring freshness and love to life. http://www.myspace.com/midwesthype
Seth Bernard Bernard was born and raised on Earthwork Farm in Northern Michigan, surrounded by gardens, goats, hippies, rednecks and stringed instruments, smack dab in the middle of a tightly woven circle of friends and family throughout the Regan Era. Just outside Lake City. A fine small hometown. No shortage of churches, bars or lakes around. The teenage years sought and brought in influences of counter culture and pop culture. Delvings into mystic poetry, stand-up comedy, sixties music, professional sports and theater. Traveling around as a storyteller, point guard, sax player or singer/guitar player in bands with names like "freesoil", "kind lear and the gothic monks" or "the pagoda trees". From little Lake City to Interlochen Arts Academy to New York City back to mother Michigan. Ten thousand miles of Greyhound travel in between. Seth recorded his first album at his guitar teacher's home studio between 99 and 00. Tried the University of Michigan and the experience was brief, stressful, expensive and expansive. Classes in ecological sustainability, poetry and the performing arts led to leaving college for a life seeking the study and creation of such things. The rest of the brief bio story is traceable online. More recordings and noteable creations and peak experiences, yes, but enough about S. Seth B. for now. Earthwork Music was a seed and now it has a life of it's own. It's at work and play in Michigan and earthworkmusic.com is a good guide to it. Earthwork now has many albums and events to it's name, and more are in the works. But it's a collective more than it's a company. A circle of friends with all different kinds of eyes and minds and musics. Bernard is still a point guard and a music maker of many colors. Daisy May is Seth's homemade partner. She is a friend of the world's. A beautiful songbird. They two have put their medicines together and hit the road.
ROGUE LOCOMOTIVE In October of 2008, founding members, Joseph Bellgowan and Michael Feldpaush collectively combined forces, creating Rogue Locomotive. In early April 2009, fellow friend and musician Jocelyn Klug, brought with her a crisp bass accompaniment adding to the rhythm section. All three members have been involved in musical projects including: Seth in Ohio, The Blackwater Fever,The Darts, and the The Speakeasy's. Locked in a basement, with a bar at arms reach, Rogue Locomotive emerged with what is called Millennium Blues. Stylistically, percussion driven intertwined with harmonious guitar and melodies. Heavily versed in all musical genres and classically trained, Rougue Locomotive brings a rowdy, bittersweet sound that will have you dancing and crying and stompin’ a foot. Their debut EP, The Scavenger’s Daughter, is due out late October. The band is ecstatic to be a part of MI Power Shift ’09. Rogue Locomotive is grateful to be part of such a great celebration of music and art, calling on our lawmakers representing Michigan to bring clean renewable energy jobs not only to this state but to the nation. All members reside in Lansing. They look forward to seeing you there. www.myspace.com/roguelocomotive

FLOBOTS When a pair of intelligent, visionary emcees joins forces with a battle-hardened, groove-fusing rhythm section, and a classically trained violist the result is a sound that explores and expands the frontiers of live hip-hop. Progressive in both style and message, the band’s ability to drop from symphonic rock-infused crescendos into stripped-down string-laden breakbeats has earned Flobots a reputation for both originality and authenticity. Armed with musicianship, intelligence, and an ingrained sense of rebellion, Flobots are looking to engage a new musical culture, one mind at a time. If you are thinking, you are winning. http://www.flobots.com/
